Fabolous Receives Key To Brooklyn & Proclamation
On the 20th anniversary of The Notorious B.I.G.’s death, Fabolous received a key to Brooklyn during an Icon Talks ceremony. Speaking of his success and his philanthropic efforts, the Young O.G. addressed a crowd of supporters that included Wale, DJ Clue, Ryan Leslie, Doug E. Fresh, and others.
The event was held at the Grand Courtroom in Borough Hall, where Fablo Freshcobar also received an Icon Award by Icon Talks founders John Hartsfield and Sharon Carpenter.
The night before, Fab was honored at an Icon Talks dinner, which was attended by Roc Nation’s Lenny “Kodak Lens” Santiago and Swizz Beatz.
“Congratulations to my brother Fab for being the secret weapon,” said Swizz. “I call him the secret weapon. He’s the secret weapon for fashion, the secret weapon for music, the secret weapon for creativity, he’s the secret weapon behind a lot of artists doing what they do today.”
After toasting to Fab’s success, Swizz joked: “We gotta get this new album out. No more mixtapes.” Fab hasn’t dropped an official studio album since 2014’s The Young OG Project. But, as Swizz noted, he has been releasing a steady stream of new music. Last year, he unleashed Summertime Shootout 2: The Level Up and in January, he teamed up with Trey Songz for the Trappy New Years mixtape.
