Snoop Dogg Faces Backlash After Controversial Trump Parody
Snoop Dogg is not Backing Down Following Backlash from Controversial Trump Parody.
Snoop Dogg is feeling the wrath after mocking President Donald Trump in the controversial video for his BADBADNOTGOOD and Kaytranada collaboration “Lavender (Nightfall Remix).”
Snoop points a novelty gun at a clown named Ronald Klump in the Jesse Wellens-directed clip. When he fires the weapon at the Trump impersonator, a flag reading “BANG” is released. Nevertheless, Florida Senator Marco Rubio says it’s “wrong.”
“Snoop shouldn’t have done that. We’ve had presidents assassinated in this country before so anything like that is really something we should be careful about,” Rubio told TMZ. “I think people could disagree on policy, but we gotta be careful with that kind of thing, because the wrong person sees that and gets the wrong idea, you can have a real problem. I’m not sure what Snoop was thinking. He should think about that a little bit.”
Trump’s lawyer Michael Cohen also criticized Snoop’s actions in the video. “It’s totally disgraceful,” he told TMZ in a separate
interview. “Snoop owes the president an apology. There’s absolutely nothing funny about an assassination attempt at a president. I’m really shocked at him because I thought he was better than that.”
He continued: “I’m not really sure I understand the artistic value to having somebody dressed up as Trump and firing a weapon at him. I would not have accepted it if it were President Obama. I certainly don’t accept it as President Trump. In all fairness, it’s not funny, it’s not artistic.”
Speaking about the video’s controversial scene, Snoop has said he wasn’t out for a response. “When I be putting shit out, I don’t ever expect or look for a reaction,” he said. “I just put it out because I feel like it’s something that’s missing. Any time I drop something, I’m trying to fill in a void. I feel like it’s a lot of people making cool records, having fun, partying, but nobody’s dealing with the real issue with this fucking clown as president, and the shit that we dealing with out here, so I wanted to take time out to push pause on a party record and make one of these records for the time being.”
Furthermore, Snoop listed his gripes with the current president, including “the ban that this motherfucker tried to put up; him winning the presidency; police being able to kill motherfuckers and get away with it;” and “people being in jail for weed for 20, 30 years and motherfuckers that’s not black on the streets making money off of it.”
Snoop is currently working on his next album, Never Left , the follow-up to last year’s Coolaid .
